Arief has extensive experience and success counseling top-level party leaders, lawmakers, key government officials and business principals. He is particularly well connected in political circles and has worked closely with executives in several political parties in developing strategic and legislative managerial capabilities. Before joining LEXICO Indonesia, Arief worked as consultant with HD Asia and later, independently. He has represented and advised numerous multinational corporations operating in Indonesia, notably those in the mining, technology, food & drug and financial sectors. He served in the Office of the House Speaker from 2004-2007, and spent another five years of service as Advisor to former Deputy House Speaker, Priyo Budi Santoso (Golkar), focusing on the areas of security, foreign relations, defense and state intelligence. Among his other roles, he is currently the lead government relations consultant for Freeport Indonesia and directly advises several prominent Western FMCG companies.
A consummate expert in Indonesian government affairs, Shawn brings more than ten years of professional experience to LEXICO Indonesia. A native of Rhode Island, USA, Shawn has spent most of his adult life in Indonesia. As a foreign student, he witnessed and documented the events surrounding the Reformasi in 1998, which sparked his long-term interest in Indonesian politics. His deeply entrenched familiarity with the local culture(s), alongside his fine-grained understanding of the country’s business & political landscape, sets him apart from other expat analysts. Prior to his work at LEXICO Indonesia, Shawn was a consultant for Mandira Advisory and Van Zorge, Heffernan & Associates—both Jakarta-based boutique political risk consultancies. He managed accounts for clients in defense and security, oil & gas, mining and telecommunications industries as well as led the political intelligence teams. Shawn graduated from the University of Indonesia majoring in Indonesian and speaks the language fluently.
